Happy Earth Day

Hello from me and my sustainable brand Lola Faturoti LOVES.

On Friday (April 22nd) we celebrated Earth Day, global events in support of environmental protection. Earth Day’s mission since 1970 has been to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. The community now has one BILLION (and counting) individuals mobilized for the future of the planet.

Why is addressing the issues within the Fashion Industry important?

The cost of Fashion adds up and it very expensive on the ecological and social environment. There is an estimated 40 million tons of textile waste each year from the US that goes into overflowing landfills - many made of synthetic fibers such as polyester, an oil derivative containing high levels of micro-plastics. About 2.5 billion gallons of water is used/wasted to manufacture low-quality clothing as well as accounting for almost 10% of the global carbon emissions, polluting the air.

Unfortunately the cycle of overconsumption and fast fashion is causing the increasing damage from the Fashion industry to get worse. As individual and collective blame is discussed, we continue to strip the Earth of its limited resources.

Sustainable fashion refers to a clothing supply chain that is ecologically and socially responsible. Check out a few of our posts here to learn more on sustainability and consumption:

However you celebrated Earth Day, I hope it was educational and enjoyable. We must remember that we have a long way to go and consistency is key but with more awareness it can be done... Together.

To a better future,
